COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA MAN SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS PROBATION FOR EMPLOYING UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS
On August 17, 2009, Darly Leise, 40, was sentenced to three years of probation, having pled guilty to recklessly disregarding the fact that undocumented aliens were working for his company in Council Bluffs, Iowa, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge James E. Gritzner also ordered Leise to forfeit $50,000 to the United States, pursuant to the terms of a plea agreement, and pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.
On April 3, 2008, a search warrant was executed at Leise’s business in Council Bluffs, by officers of Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE), at which time documents were seized relating to the employment of unauthorized aliens who were working at that facility. Additionally, a number of unauthorized aliens were taken into custody at the time of the execution of the warrant.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case.
