DAVENPORT MAN SENTENCED ON FEDERAL DRUG AND FIREARM CHARGES
DAVENPORT- On September 10, 2009, Jeremy Jeremiah Canady, age 24, formerly of Davenport, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 190 months in federal prison after convictions for conspiracy to distribute at least fifty grams of cocaine base and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Canady was also ordered to serve at least five years of supervised release after his imprisonment and to pay an assessment of $200 to the Crime Victim Fund.
Canady pled guilty to participation in a crack cocaine conspiracy running from October to December 2008. In two controlled purchases by the Davenport Police Department and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement on December 2, 2008 and December 29, 2008, Canady distributed a total of approximately 40 grams of crack cocaine. In a search warrant of Canady’s Davenport residence conducted on December 31, 2008, law enforcement officers seized items consistent with drug distribution, including cash, drugs and a .380 caliber handgun. Canady admitted that the .380 caliber handgun was possessed in furtherance of his drug trafficking activity. This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa.
This investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Davenport Police Department.
