DAVENPORT MAN SENTENCED ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES

DAVENPORT, Iowa - On September 10, 2009, Mark Edward Echols, age 34, formerly of Davenport, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 80 months in federal prison after conviction for conspiracy to distribute at least five grams of cocaine base, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Echols was also ordered to serve at least four years of supervised release after his imprisonment, and pay a $100 assessment to the Crime Victim Fund.

Echols pleaded guilty to participation in a crack cocaine conspiracy from April 30, 2008 to October 11, 2008 with Anthony Laray Mitchell and Lorenzo Markey Cook. Specifically, on October 6, 2008 Echols delivered approximately 11 grams of crack cocaine to Mitchell who then distributed it to another. Both Mitchell and Cook have also pled guilty and are awaiting sentencing.

This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Davenport Police Department.
