MISSOURI VALLEY MAN SENTENCED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

DES MOINES - On September 17, 2009, Jeremiah Thomas Windschitl, age 29, of Missouri Valley, Iowa, was sentenced to a term of 90 months’ imprisonment for possessing child pornography, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Court Judge James E. Gritzner also ordered Windschitl to serve a ten year term of supervised release upon his release from prison and pay a crime victim fund assessment of $100.00.

On May 5, 2009, Windschitl pled guilty to a possession of child pornography charge. A search warrant was executed at Windschitl’s residence on August 3, 2007, and his computer was seized. A forensic exam of Windschitl’s computer revealed that Windschitl had saved numerous images of child pornography on his computer.

This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This case was investigated by the Omaha, Nebraska Police Department, the Missouri Valley, Iowa Police Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
