DAVENPORT MAN SENTENCED ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES

DAVENPORT, IA - On September 18, 2009, Lorenzo Markey Cook, age 38, formerly of Davenport, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 92 months in federal prison after his conviction for conspiracy to distribute at least five grams of cocaine base, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Cook was also ordered to serve at least four years of supervised release after his imprisonment, and pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.

Cook pled guilty to participation in a crack cocaine conspiracy from April 30, 2008 to October 11, 2008 with Anthony Laray Mitchell and Mark Echols. Specifically, on September 4, 2008 and September 11, 2008, Cook delivered approximately 11 grams of crack cocaine to Mitchell who then distributed it to another. Both Mitchell and Echols have also pleaded guilty. On September 10, 2009, Echols was sentenced to 80 months in prison. Mitchell is awaiting sentencing.

This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Davenport Police Department.
