FORMER IOWA CITY MAN SENTENCED TO TEN YEARS PRISON ON FEDERAL CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES
DAVENPORT, IA - On September 18, 2009, James Michael Kimpton, age 52, formerly of Iowa City, having been convicted of possessing child pornography, was sentenced to the statutory maximum ten years in prison by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey, announced U.S. Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Kimpton will also be required to spend ten years on supervised release following any period of incarceration, and pay an assessment of $100 to the Crime Victim Fund.
In March 2007, Iowa City Police responded to a subject who claimed to have purchased a computer from Kimpton. Upon turning on the computer, this subject observed images of minors and called the police. Kimpton later admitted that he had downloaded child pornography onto this computer.
This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the Iowa City Police Department and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
