DAVENPORT MAN SENTENCED ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGES

DAVENPORT- On September 25, 2009, Anthony Laray Mitchell, age 33, formerly of Davenport, Iowa was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John A. Jarvey to 260 months in federal prison after being convicted of conspiracy to distribute at least fifty grams of cocaine base, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. Mitchell was also ordered to serve at least ten years of supervised release after his imprisonment.

Mitchell pled guilty to participation in a crack cocaine conspiracy from April 30, 2008, to October 11, 2008, with Lorenzo Cook and Mark Echols. In furtherance of this conspiracy, law enforcement investigation established that Mitchell distributed cocaine base, also known as crack, from a Davenport residence on at least six separate occasions between April 2008 and October 2008. Previously, co-defendant Cook was sentenced to 92 months in prison and codefendant Echols was sentenced to 80 months in prison.

This case was prosecuted in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Iowa. This investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Division of Narcotics Enforcement, and the Davenport Police Department.
