Man Sentenced to 27 years Imprisonment for Conspiracy to Distribute Crack Cocaine
DAVENPORT, IA - On October 9, 2009, Stevie Lavell West, 22, was sentenced to 324 months imprisonment, having previously been found guilty after a trial of conspiracy to distribute at least 50 grams of crack cocaine and possession with intent to distribute at least 5 grams of crack cocaine, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered West to serve five years on supervised release following imprisonment, and pay an assessment of $200 to the Crime Victim Fund.
On May 29, 2008, West was found in possession of 6.85 grams of crack cocaine. Following his arrest, West told law enforcement officers that he purchased for resale approximately 500 grams of crack cocaine from Terry Clark from January 2008 until May 29, 2008. West went on to take responsibility for an additional 170 grams of crack that he bought from other crack sources and then re-sold in the Davenport area.
In addition to the amount of crack West confessed to, officers learned that West and up to four other individuals sold crack out of an apartment located at 303 E. 11th Street in Davenport, Iowa. This apartment was raided by police on February 24, 2008, however, West was not present.
During the trial, several cooperators testified regarding their involvement with West. At sentencing, West was found to be responsible for at least 1.5 kilograms up to 4.5 kilograms of crack cocaine.
This case was investigated by the Davenport Police Department, the Iowa Department of Public Safety Division of Narcotics Enforcement and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa prosecuted the case in Davenport.
