Davenport Man Sentenced On Gun Charges

Davenport, IA- Today, Kevin Deontrea West, age 21, of Davenport, IA, was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States District Judge John A. Jarvey also sentenced Stewart to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victims Fund and, following imprisonment, serve three years on supervised release. West previously had entered a guilty plea to a charge of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.

The felon-in-possession charge stemmed from an incident on March 31, 2009, when police attempted to stop West and other gang members near downtown Davenport. West fled on foot, tossing a loaded handgun during the foot chase. West was apprehended by pursuing police officers soon thereafter. West was a member of a local Davenport gang involved in numerous criminal incidents.

This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Iowa, and investigated by the Davenport Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
