Four Sentenced on Methamphetamine Charges
POCATELLO – U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced that four people were sentenced in United States District Court in Pocatello yesterday for distributing methamphetamine in southeast Idaho.
Jose Angel Rangel-Cortes, 24, a Mexican national, was sentenced to 120 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release and 120 hours of community service for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He pled guilty on February 14, 2012, to all counts charged in the indictment filed on March 24, 2011.
Delpina Prado Tonnelli, 34, of Logan, Utah, was sentenced to 70 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release and 50 hours community service for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. She pled guilty on February 14, 2012.
Ivette Adilene Coria, 23, a Mexican national, was sentenced to 30 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release and 100 hours community service for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. She pled guilty to the charge on February 14.
Oliver Vazquez-Silva, 31, a Mexican national, was sentenced to 70 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release and 100 hours of community service for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. He pled guilty on March 12.
According to court documents and the defendants' admissions in court, the defendants distributed methamphetamine in Cache County, Utah, and Franklin County, Idaho. Rangel-Cortes and Vasquez-Silva were arrested attempting to deliver a quarter pound of methamphetamine to a location in Preston, Idaho. Upon arrest, Vasquez-Silva was found to have another three-quarter pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle.
“These sentences are a victory for Idaho and Utah,” said Olson. “They demonstrate that those who bring methamphetamine, a highly addictive and dangerous drug, into our communities will be vigorously prosecuted. This office will work together with its federal, state and local law enforcement partners and will take our partnerships across state lines to bring drug traffickers to justice.”
The case was investigated by the Idaho State Police, the Logan City (Utah) Police Department, the Cache-Rich Drug Task Force, and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
