TREASURE VALLEY MAN SENTENCED TO ELEVEN YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISONJuan Rubio, a Treasure Valley resident, will serve eleven years in federal prison for trafficking methamphetamine. Rubio, 39, was sentenced Wednesday afternoon by Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill at the federal courthouse in Boise. After discussing the damage done to the community by methamphetamine, Judge Winmill sentenced Rubio to 142 months in federal prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. Winmill also ordered Rubio to pay a $1000 fine. Rubio was charged with three separate counts of methamphetamine trafficking, and his illegal activities spanned several months. In January 2006, he sold a pound of methamphetamine to a confidential informant. In February 2006, the Canyon County Sheriff's Office, while arresting Rubio on an outstanding arrest warrant, saw him throw two packages of methamphetamine from a vehicle. Finally, on September 13, 2006, during an attempt to arrest Rubio on a revoked bail bond, several bail bondsmen and sheriff deputies found methamphetamine at Rubio's residence after he fled the area. Rubio's case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Idaho State Police, the Canyon County Sheriff's Office, the Caldwell City Police Department, and the Nampa City Police Department. |
