WOMEN CHARGED WITH MAIL FRAUD CONSPIRACY FOR ILLINOIS CHILDCARE ASSISTANCE FRAUD
Stephen Wigginton, United States Attorneyfor the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on December 16, 2010, that CANDICE HOWARD-MCNABB, 30, of St. Louis, Missouri and CHERRITA HENDRICKS, 44, of East St. Louis, Illinois, were indicted by the grand jury with one count of Conspiracy to Commit Mail Fraud, in violation of Title 18, United States Code Section 1341, 1349. The violation allegedly took place between June, 2006, and continuing through May, 2009, in St. Clair County, Illinois.
An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge and is entitled to a fair trial at which the Government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
If convicted, each Defendant faces a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both; and not more than 3 years Supervised Release.
The Investigation was completed by the Office of Inspector General for the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services and is being prosecuted by Jennifer Hudson.
