Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on December 21, 2010, CHRISTINA LYNN KECK, age 31, of Collinsville, Illinos, was charged by criminal complaint with use of a Facility of Interstate Commerce in Murder for Hire Scheme, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1958(a). The violation is alleged to have occurred on December 20, 2010, in St. Clair County, Illinois.
Individuals charged by Criminal Complaint have the constitutional right to have the case presented to a grand jury to decide whether to return an indictment which is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge and is entitled to a fair trial at which the Government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
A preliminary and detention hearing is set for December 27, 2010, in federal court in East St. Louis.
The affidavit alleges that KECK offered to pay an undercover officer $600 to murder the father of her child.
The offense carries a maximum penalty of ten years imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, or both, and a supervised release term of up to three years.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Illinois State Police. The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Suzanne Garrison for prosecution.
