
MT. VERNON MAN INDICTED FOR BEING A CONVICTED FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
A Mt. Vernon, Ill.-, man was indicted on firearm charges on March 25, 2011, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today.
Devario M. Gale, 27, was charged in a one count Indictment returned by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in East St. Louis, Ill.-. The Indictment charges that Gale, who had previously been convicted of a felony, possessed a Glock 9mm firearm between December 1 and December 6, 2010, in Jefferson County, Ill.-.
The possible penalties are up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years.
An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
The investigation was conducted by the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The case is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney George Norwood.
