Deanna L. Costello, 45, of Fairmont City, IL, was sentenced on August 5, 2011, in the United States District Court, in East St. Louis, for Harboring an Illegal Alien, Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today.

On June 17, 2009, Costello was indicted on one count of Harboring an Illegal Alien. It was alleged that Costello concealed and harbored from detection, in buildings and other places, with reckless disregard of the fact that an alien, namely Rogelio Salaices-Arenales, had entered and remained in the United States. The violation was alleged to have taken place in or around October, 2006, in the Southern District of Illinois. Deanna Costello waived her right to trial by jury. A bench trial was held on October 21, 2009, in front of United States District Judge William D. Stiehl.

After trial, Deanna Costello was adjudged guilty on Count 1 of the Indictment for Harboring an Illegal Alien. Costello received a sentence of 2 years probation, was ordered to pay a $100.00 Special Assessment, and to pay a $200.00 fine.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Ranley R. Killian
