
FORMER NBA PLAYER PLEADS GUILTY TO FAILURE TO PAY LEGAL CHILD SUPPORT OBLIGATIONS
A former NBA player pled guilty in the United States District Court in Benton, Ill.-, on March 11, 2011, for failure to pay legal child support obligations, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today. Tyrone Lamont Nesby, a resident of California and former player for the Los Angeles Clippers and the Washington Wizards, was charged with three counts of failure to pay legal child support obligations. Nesby faces the following maximum penalties on each of the three counts: imprisonment of 6 months; a fine of $5,000; supervised release of 1 year; and a special assessment of $10. The date for Nesby’s sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled.
According to court documents, Nesby pled guilty to failure to pay legal child support obligations in the Southern District of Illinois in the amount of $570,794.73, the Northern District of Indiana in the amount of $318,853.88, and the District of Nevada in the amount of $87,753.44. As a result of his plea of guilty, Nesby will owe restitution on these counts in the total amount of $977,402.05.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Liam Coonan for prosecution.
