COLLINSVILLE RESIDENT PLEADS GUILTY TO AIDING AND ASSISTING IN THE MAKING OF A FALSE INCOME TAX RETURN
Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on March 25, 2011, Vashawn Miller, 23 of Collinsville, Ill.-, entered a plea of guilty to an Indictment charging him with Aiding and Assisting in the Making of a False Federal Income Tax Return. Sentencing is currently scheduled for July 15, 2011, in U.S. District Court. The offense of Making a False Federal Income Tax Return carries a maximum potential punishment of up to three (3) years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, restitution, and up to one (1) year supervised release. As part of the plea, Miller, admitted to assisting with the making of a false 2008 federal income tax return that involved a fraudulent tax refund based on falsified W-2 earnings.
The prosecution in this case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Internal Revenue Service/Criminal Investigations. The prosecution of the case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Norman R. Smith.
