
Villa Ridge Man Sentenced to 42 Months
A Villa Ridge, Ill., man was sentenced on April 19, 2012, in United States District Court in Benton, on a one-count Indictment charging that he was a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today.
William A. Kern, 33, was sentenced to 42 months imprisonment, 2 years supervised release, and was fined $300. Kern had previously pleaded guilty to the Indictment, which charged that on May 17, 2011, Kern did knowingly possess a firearm after he had previously been convicted in 1998 of Arson, a felony under the laws of the State of Illinois.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Illinois State Police, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Union County State’s Attorney’s Office, the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney George A. Norwood.
