VIGO COUNTY (INDIANA) COMMISSIONER CHARGED WITH METHAMPHETAMINE DEALING

A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on April 29, 2009, DAVID W. DECKER, 53, Terre Haute, Indiana, was charged by information with distribution of methamphetamine. DECKER is currently the President of the Vigo County Board of Commissioners. DECKER was charged with distributing one-eighth ounce (3.25 grams) of methamphetamine.

Upon conviction, DECKER faces a possible maximum sentence of twenty years’ imprisonment, a $1,000,000 fine, and at least three years of supervised release.

The information is an allegation only, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial or by guilty plea.

DECKER signed a plea agreement concurrently with the filing of the information. He is expected to appear in United States District Court in Terre Haute on April 30.

The charge in this case is the result of an ongoing investigation into a methamphetamine trafficking organization that operated in the Terre Haute area. Investigating agencies included the Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms, Vigo County Drug Task Force, the Vincennes Police Department, and the Indiana State Police. The case is assigned to Assistant U. S. Attorney Bradley A. Blackington for prosecution, under the supervision of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois on a recusal from the Southern District of Indiana.
