COLLINSVILLE MAN CHARGED WITH WORKER’S COMPENSATION FRAUD
A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that TIMMY GOODWIN, age 42, of Collinsville, Illinois, was arraigned today on a two count indictment returned on May 20, 2009, by a grand jury sitting in East St. Louis. The case has not yet been scheduled for trial.
GOODWIN is charged with one count of Making False Statements and one count of Worker’s Compensation Fraud. Each count of the indictment carries a term of imprisonment of up to five years, a fine of up to $250,000, or both, and a term of supervised release of up to three years.
The violations are alleged to have taken place in February and April of 2009 in Madison County, Illinois.
An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant. Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service, Office of Inspector General. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Suzanne M. Garrison.
