OLNEY MAN SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on June 25, 2009, BRENTLY CONNELL RUBSAM, age 31, of Olney, Illinois, was sentenced in United States District Court in East St. Louis, Illinois. RUBSAM was sentenced to 108 months (9 years) imprisonment, was fined $750, and was placed on ten (10) years supervised release.
RUBSAM had previously pleaded guilty to a one count federal indictment charging him with possession of child pornography. At the sentencing hearing, it was established that RUBSAM had accumulated child pornography via the Internet for a four-year period, and more than 2,800 images of child pornography were found on his computer.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Southern Illinois Cyber Crimes Task Force, along with assistance from the Richland County Sheriff’s Office. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, in which the United States Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with federal and state law enforcement authorities, is actively investigating and prosecuting individuals who produce, distribute, or possess child pornography.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney George A. Norwood.
Anyone with information concerning the use of the Internet for the purposes of possessing, producing, or trafficking in child pornography is encouraged to contact the Federal Bureau of Investigation or their local police department.
