WOODHULL MAN SENTENCED FOR BEING A FELON IN POSSESSION OF FIREARMS

A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on May 21, 2009, WILLIAM SHERMAN KIRKPATRICK, age 35, of Woodhull, Illinois, was sentenced to 108 months’ imprisonment, 3 years’ supervised release, and a $100 special assessment following his guilty plea to an indictment charging him with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The violation took place December 8, 2008, in Madison County, Illinois.

The Indictment charged that KIRKPATRICK possessed an E.A.A. brand Witness Model 38 SA caliber semi-automatic pistol, and an Enfield brand, No. 4 MKI model, .303 caliber bolt-action rifle. KIRKPATRICK pled guilty to the charge on January 6, 2009. Evidence supporting this conviction was obtained in an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen B. Clark.
