FORMER CORRECTIONAL OFFICER AT FCI GREENVILLE SENTENCED FOR FALSE STATEMENT
A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on November 6, 2009, KENNETH LEE WHITE, age 45, of Centralia, Illinois, was sentenced in federal district court, East St. Louis, Illinois, following his plea of guilty to a one-count Information charging him with False Statement to a Federal Officer, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1001. WHITE sentenced to 6 months’ imprisonment, 2 years’ supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and a fine of $50.
According to a Stipulation of Fact filed with the court, WHITE made false statements to a federal agent who was investigating illegal distribution of tobacco to inmates at the United States Penitentiary in Greenville, Illinois. According to the Stipulation, WHITE falselydenied that he ever had any business dealings with any inmate or with any inmate’s associate. The Stipulation also states that between approximately October, 2006, and August, 2007, WHITE delivered tobacco (a contraband at the penitentiary) to two inmates at Greenville in return for approximately $35,000 paid by the two inmates.
The maximum penalties that can be imposed for this violation are 5 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both, 3 years’ supervised release, and a $100 special assessment. The case was investigated by agents of the Office of Inspector General of the Department of Justice. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen B. Clark.
