CALIFORNIA MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN COCAINE CASE

A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on October 14, 2009, MYLES A. PAUL, age 39, of Lynnwood, California pled guilty in United States District Court in East St. Louis, Illinois, to an indictment charging him with possession with intent to distribute approximately 90 kilograms (198 pounds) of cocaine.

PAUL was arrested by the Illinois State Police on June 11, 2009 during a traffic stop near Madison, Illinois. During the stop, cocaine was found concealed in the semi-tractor-trailer operated by PAUL. He was indicted by a Federal Grand Jury on June 17, 2009.

PAUL is currently scheduled to be sentenced on January 29, 2010. PAUL faces a statutory minimum of 10 years to a maximum of life imprisonment, a fine of up to $4,000,000, and not less than 5 years of supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Illinois State Police. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ranley R. Killian.
