USP-MARION INMATE CONVICTED OF MARIJUANA RELATED OFFENSES

A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that COREY LOUIS HINES, age 38, an inmate at the United States Penitentiary at Marion, Illinois, was found guilty by a jury in United States District Court in East St. Louis of one count of possessing a prohibited object (marijuana) in a federal prison and one count of possessing with intent to distribute marijuana. The offenses were committed from September 15, 2007, through September 21, 2007.

HINES faces a maximum sentence on each count of five years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and three years supervised release. Sentencing is currently scheduled for April 9, 2010. The investigation into the case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney James M. Cutchin.
