The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana (USAO) is responsible for representing the federal government in virtually all litigation involving the United States in the Northern District of Indiana. This includes criminal prosecutions for violations of federal law, civil lawsuits by and against the government, and actions to collect judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers. The United States Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana is David Capp. The U.S. Attorney is the Chief Federal Law Enforcement Officer in each judicial district throughout the United States.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office Northern District of Indiana also works with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies on various government initiatives and task forces to help reduce crime in each District. The Office has a Financial Litigation Unit responsible for recovering debt owed to the government; a Victim/Witness Assistance Unit who assists victims of crime; and a Law Enforcement Coordination Committee who focuses on helping, coordinating and providing training to federal, state and local law enforcement throughout the State of Indiana. In addition, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is responsible for managing many of the programs sponsored by the United States Department of Justice.
