                                                            PRESS RELEASE

DEFENDANT CONVICTED

A federal jury in Fort Wayne, Indiana yesterday convicted

TIMOTHY REDD of conspiracy to distribute more than 5 grams of crack cocaine, two counts of distribution of more than 5 grams of crack cocaine, and assault on a law enforcement officer. The trial began March 9, 2004, and after 90 minutes deliberation, the jury returned the guilty verdicts March 15, 2004.

U.S. District Judge Theresa L. Springmann has scheduled sentencing for June 12, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

REDD, age 31, of Sauk Village, Illinois, has been in custody since his arrest July 18, 2003. The indictment was returned in August 6, 2003. REDD’s co-defendants previously pled guilty.

The assault charged stemmed from REDD’s attempt to run over a Schererville, Indiana police officer with his automobile on July 8, 2003. According to testimony at trial, the police officer was assigned to the DEA/HIDTA Task Force and had attempted to arrest REDD when REDD attempted to run him over. REDD fled from DEA in a high-speed chase and was apprehended ten days later.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the DEA/HIDTA Task Force and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Philip C. Benson and Dean Lanter.
