DEFENDANT SENTENCED

         MICHAEL D. SHELBY was sentenced by United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon to 121 months imprisonment on two counts, to be served concurrently, and 5 years Supervised Release.

         A federal jury in Hammond, Indiana convicted SHELBY, age 26, on February 8, 2005, of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute in excess of 50 grams of cocaine on March 30, 2004. The jury deliberated for approximately 2 hours. Evidence at trial showed that SHELBY was arrested after a high-speed chase through Highland and Hammond, Indiana. SHELBY has remained in custody since his arrest.

         This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Highland, Indiana Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Clarence Butler.
