FEDERAL GRAND JURY RETURNS SIX INDICTMENTS

Hammond, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced that a Grand Jury sitting in Hammond, Indiana, returned the following Indictment on May 17, 2006:

LLOYD J. ROCK, age 50, of Gary, Indiana, was charged in a five count indictment with knowingly and intentionally distributing a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of heroin, a schedule I controlled substance. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and GRIT. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney David J. Nozick, who can be reached at 219-937-5500 for any inquiries.

JOENATHAN KING, age 25, of Gary, Indiana, was charged in a three count indictment with knowingly and intentionally distributing a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine base, commonly known as “crack” cocaine, a schedule II controlled substance. These charges were filed as a result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and GRIT. TERRIN T. RILEY, age 26, of Gary, Indiana was charged in a one count indictment with knowingly and intentionally possessing with intent to distribute a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine base, commonly known as “crack” cocaine, a schedule II controlled substance. These charges were filed as a result of the investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and GRIT. DEANDRE LAVARR TURNER, age 23, of Gary, Indiana was charged in a one count indictment with knowingly and intentionally possessing with intent to distribute a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of cocaine base, commonly known as “crack” cocaine, a schedule II controlled substance. These charges were filed as a result of the investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and GRIT. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David J. Nozick, who can be reached at 219-937-5500 for any inquiries.

ARTHUR J. SIMS, age 57, and DOROTHY F. DAVIS, age 55, both of Gary, Indiana were charged in a nine count indictment with knowingly and intentionally distributing a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of heroin, a Schedule I controlled substance. Sims, having been convicted of Dealing in Cocaine or a Narcotic Drug on January 30, 1985, in Lake County Indiana, said crime being punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year, did knowingly possess in and affecting commerce a firearm, to wit: a Smith & Wesson Model 910S, 9mm, semi-automatic pistol in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime for which he may be prosecuted in a court of the United States. These charges were filed as a result of the investigation by the Gary Police Department and GRIT. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas S. JEFFREY M. KENNEDY, age 45, of Naperville, Illinois was charged with knowingly devising a scheme and artifice to defraud and obtain money from Indiana Beach Incorporated and the concessionaires by means of false and fraudulent pretenses and material misrepresentations relating to policies of insurance procured or represented by defendant as having been procured for Indiana Beach Incorporated and the concessionaires. These charges were filed as a result of the investigation by the United States Postal Service and the Indiana State Police. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Orest S. Szewciw, who can be reached at 219-937-5500 for any inquiries.

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be

determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal

Sentencing Guidelines.

The United States Attorney's Office emphasized that an Indictment is merely an

allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in

court.
