FEDERAL GRAND JURY IN SOUTH BEND RETURNS INDICTMENT

South Bend, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced that a Grand Jury sitting in South Bend, Indiana, returned the following Indictment on August 8, 2007:

JOSE MEDINA, a/k/a Jose Herrera, a/k/a Juan Jimenez, a/k/a Juan Yanez Moreno, a/k/a Juan Antonio Yanez Moreno, a/k/a Alex Javier Roman Monarca, a/k/a Mondo A. Moya, a/k/a Oliver Marron Pineda, a/k/a Juan Quiroga, a/k/a Juan Salvatie Quiroga, a/k/a Juan Salvatierra Quiroga, a/k/a Alex Jaiver Roman, a/k/a Cesar Gutierrez Sanchez, a/k/a Juan Vanez, a/k/a Juan Yanez, a/k/a Juan Antonio Yanez, age 32, of Lafayette, Indiana, was charged in a thirteen count Indictment with ten counts of fraud related to identification documents, two counts of aggravated identify theft, and one count of misuse of a social security number. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the United States Secret Service. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jesse Barrett, who can be reached at 574-236-8287 for any inquiries.

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be

determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal

Sentencing Guidelines.

The United States Attorney's Office emphasized that an Indictment is merely an

allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in

court.
