FEDERAL GRAND JURY IN FORT WAYNE RETURNS INDICTMENTS

Fort Wayne, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced that a Grand Jury sitting in Fort Wayne, Indiana, returned the following Indictments on August 22, 2007:

THOMAS CARR, age 44, of Fort Wayne, Indiana is charged in a single count Indictment with failure to register as a sex offender in July 2007. This charge was filed as the result of an investigation by the United States Marshal’s Service. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lesley Miller Lowery, who can be reached at 260422-2595 for any inquiries.

VERNON CURTIS, age 45, of Fort Wayne, Indiana is charged in a single count Indictment with failure to register as a sex offender in December 2007. This charge was filed as the result of an investigation by the United States Marshal’s Service and the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lesley Miller Lowery, who can be reached at 260-422-2595 for any inquiries.

ROBERT DAWSON, age21, of Gary, Indiana, is charged in a single count Indictment with armed bank robbery and aiding and abetting on December 12, 2006. This charge was filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bank Robbery Task Force, comprised of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Indiana State Police, Allen County Police Department, Fort Wayne Police Department, New Haven Police Department and the United States Marshals Service and the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lesley Miller Lowery, who can be reached at 260-422-2595 for any inquiries.

RACHAEL MILLS, age 30, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, is charged in a single count Indictment with making a false statement to a government official on July 20, 2007. This charge was filed as the result of an investigation by the United States Marshal’s Service and the Fort Wayne Police Department. This case has been assigned to and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tina L. Nommay, who can be reached at 260-422-2595 for any inquiries.

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The United States Attorney's Office emphasized that an Indictment is merely an allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
