Hammond, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced that on May 2, 2007, Zachary Williams, 24, of Lafayette, Indiana, pled guilty to the felony offense of being a felon in possession of ammunition, in violation of 18 U.S.C. Section 922(g)(1). In March 2006, the ATF and Lafayette Police Department recovered fourteen rounds of 7.62 x 39 millimeter ammunition from Williams' house following a domestic dispute between Williams and his live-in girlfriend. Williams has been in custody since the time of his arrest immediately following recovery of the ammunition. Williams has prior felony convictions for criminal recklessness causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon and dealing in cocaine, for which he will be imprisoned in the Indiana Department of Corrections until 2011. This case was investigated by the ATF with the assistance the Lafayette Police Department.

This case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Dean R. Lanter, who can be reached at 219-937-5500 for any inquiries.

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The United States Attorney's Office emphasized that these indictments are merely allegations and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
