Hammond, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced several events taking place in the District Court, Hammond, Indiana:
On November 26, 2007:
DETRICK HOUSTON, 26, of Hammond, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Rudy Lozano to 37 months in the Bureau of Prisons, followed by 3 years of supervised release for his conviction for distributing cocaine base, commonly known as “crack cocaine”, from about May, 2007 to June, 2007. This case was investigated by the ATF, and the Hammond, Indiana Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dean R. Lanter.
On November 28, 2007:
CHARLES R. OLSON, 40, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was sentenced by Judge Philip Simon in 17 months imprisonment in the Bureau of Prisons, and 2 years of supervised release for possession of 2 silencers and a Remington .22 sawed off rifle not registered to him. This case was investigated by the ATF and the Warren County, Indiana Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas J. Padilla.
On November 29, 2007:
JOHNNY BOONE, 39, of Lake Station, Indiana, was sentenced to 46 months in the Bureau of Prisons, to be followed by 4 years supervised release for distributing cocaine base, commonly known as “crack cocaine” from July, 2006 to September, 2006. This case was investigated by GRIT and the Gary, Indiana Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas J. Padilla.
OSCAR LOPEZ, 26, of Hobart, Indiana, was sentenced to 72 months in the Bureau of Prisons, to be followed by 1 year of supervised release, by Judge Philip Simon, for International Kidnapping. Lopez removed 2 children under the age of sixteen from the United States to Mexico with the intent to obstruct the lawful exercise of parental rights of the mother, and threatened harm to the children via telephonic communication. This case was investigated by ICE. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Philip C. Benson.
GEORGE SOLTIS, 60, of Hammond, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge James Moody to 33 months in the Bureau of Prisons, to be followed by 3 years of supervised release for transporting explosive materials without a permit or license on Cline Avenue, Lake County, Indiana, and receiving explosive materials. This sentence is to be served concurrently with the defendant’s State sentence stemming from the same incident. Also ordered: Restitution of $3,493.99, payable to Clerk of the Court for disbursement to victim. This case was investigated by the by the ATF, the East Chicago Police Department, the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and the Porter County Sheriff’s Department. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Daniel L. Bella and Dean R. Lanter.
