Hammond, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced that on September 10, 2007, ZACHARY WILLIAMS, 24, of Lafayette, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Lozano to 37 months imprisonment following his conviction for being a felon in possession of ammunition. Judge Lozano ordered that this federal sentence run consecutive to Williams’ state term of ten years imprisonment, for which he is not eligible for release until 2011, for a prior felony conviction for dealing in cocaine. In this case, in February 2006 the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic incident at Williams’ Lafayette, Indiana residence and recovered a 7.62 x 39 millimeter, semi-automatic rifle, after which they returned to the house three weeks later and recovered 19 rounds of 7.62 x 39 millimeter ammunition. Williams has prior felony convictions for criminal recklessness and dealing cocaine, and has been in custody since his March 2006 arrest.
This case was investigated by the ATF, with the assistance of the Tippecanoe County and Fountain County Sheriff’s Departments. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dean R. Lanter
