ACTIVITY IN FEDERAL COURT - HAMMOND

Hammond, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced several events taking place in the District Court, Hammond, Indiana:

On June 13, 2008, Ray Perry, Jr., 39, of Gary, Indiana, was arrested following being charged in a federal criminal complaint with distribution of cocaine on June 10, 2008. According to the government, following making a controlled purchase of cocaine from Perry on June 10, 2008, the FBI’s GRIT Task Force executed a search warrant on Perry’s Gary residence and recovered powder cocaine, crack cocaine, a drug scale, a shotgun, and baggies used in the street-level distribution of narcotics. Perry has been detained pending a detention hearing. This case is being investigated by the FBI’s GRIT Task Force and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dean R. Lanter

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The United States Attorney's Office emphasized that these indictments are merely allegations and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
