South Bend, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced:Dawn Wucsina, 30, of Mishawaka, Indiana, plead guilty on 4/12/10 before Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein, to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Wucsina was convicted of possession of cocaine in 2003. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Schaffer.

Michael Howell, 28, of South Bend, Indiana, was sentenced on 4/12/10 by Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 12 months and 1 day imprisonment and 4 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to possession with the intent to distribute over 100 plants of marijuana. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Schaffer.

Becky Friedersdorf, of Macy, Indiana, was sentenced on 4/12/10 by Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 18 months imprisonment and after pleading guilty to being an illegal drug user in possession of a firearm. Friedersdorf admitted in a plea agreement that she possessed 14 firearms, as well as ammunition, in June 2009. At the same time these guns were in her home she admitted that she cultivated and used marijuana in her home. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jesse Barrett.

Tito Montes Alvarez, 29, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced on 4/12/10 by Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 30 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading to re-entry of a deported alien. This case was investigated by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Cass County Sheriff’s department, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Macieczyk.

Melvin Cormican, 36, of South Bend, Indiana, plead guilty on 4/12/10 before Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein to robbery of Farmers State Bank of Mentone, Indiana, a federally insured bank, while armed with a deadly weapon. Sentencing has been set for June 30, 2010. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Schaffer.

 

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
