ACTIVITY IN FEDERAL COURT - FORT WAYNE


Fort Wayne, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced the following activity in federal court:

 

 

Frederick Starks, 26, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was sentenced on 4/12/10 before Judge William C. Lee to 105 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. Starks was previously sentenced to 4 years imprisonment on his conviction in the Allen Superior Court for Battery in 2006. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives and the Fort Wayne Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tina Nommay.

 

Tracey Martin, 31, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was sentenced on 4/12/10 before Judge Theresa Springmann to 100 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. On 1/31/2009, a Fort Wayne Police Department officer observed a green van slide off the road into a snow bank. The officer approached the driver, who was Martin, and observed signs of possible intoxication. During an inventory search incident to towing the van, officers found a loaded handgun under the driver’s seat and evidence of marijuana trafficking in the van’s console and back seat area. The van belonged to Martin and his girlfriend. Martin was convicted previously of robbery and carjacking in 1997, among other violations. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives and the Fort Wayne Police Department, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Geller.

 

Jesus Guzman-Moreno, 31, of Ligonier, Indiana plead guilty on 4/12/10 before Judge William C. Lee to two counts of distributing controlled substances, including in each Count more than fifty (50) grams of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine. Sentencing has been set for June 25, 2010. This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Indiana State Police, the Allen County Police Department, and the IMAGE Drug Task Force, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert Trgovich.

 

Maria Arias, 35, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, plead guilty on 4/12/10 before Magistrate Judge Roger Cosbey to misuse of a social security number. This case was investigated by the Indiana State Police, a member of the Federal Identity Theft Task Force, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lovita Morris King.

 

 

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
