South Bend, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced the following activity in Federal Court:
Melvin Cormican, 36, no address, was sentenced by Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 51 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to bank robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon. On February 28, 2010, Cormican went into the Farmers State Bank located in Mentone, Indiana. He had in his possession a handgun. Cormicam displayed the handgun to the bank teller when and demanded that the teller give him money. Upon exiting the bank, he fled to a home with the cash. Officers found him in the home with the handgun which was still in his possession. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Schaffer.
Robert B. Thomas, 52, of Niles, Michigan, was sentenced by Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 30 months imprisonment and 4 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Indiana State Police, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Maciejczyk.
