South Bend, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced:Mark Kovatch, 40, of South Bend, Indiana, was sentenced on 5/5/10 by Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 15 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to being an unlawful user of marijuana in possession of a firearm. Kovatch admitted in his plea agreement that in August, 2009, he was in possession of a Mossberg shotgun. This shotgun was found by State Police Officers while investigating a marijuana grow at my home in St. Joseph county, Indiana. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Schaffer.

Jeffrey Scott Coleman, Jr., 20, of St. Petersburg, Florida, was sentenced on 5/6/10 by Judge Robert Miller, Jr. to 30 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to count 1 of an information charging him with being an unlawful user marijuana in possession of a firearm. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Donald Schmid.

Isaih Ward, 23, of South Bend, Indiana, plead guilty on 5/4/10 before Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein to count 2 of an indictment charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm, to wit; a Browning .25 cal. handgun with the serial number obliterated. Sentencing has been set for July 19, 2010. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Schaffer.

Peter Perez, 31, of Goshen, Indiana, plead guilty on 5/4/10 before Magistrate Judge Christopher Nuechterlein to count 1 of an indictment charging him with possession of a firearm as a drug user. Perez admitted in a plea agreement that he possessed multiple firearms in Elkhart, Indiana in February, 2010. In February 2010, he was a user of marijuana. Investigators from the Elkhart County ICE Unit and Project Disarm Task Force conducted a knock and talk at a residence in Goshen, Indiana. Perez admitted to investigators on that date that he purchased several of the firearms in his possession, including a.380 caliber Beretta pistol, a 9mm Glock pistol, a Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun, and a .22 caliber rifle. Sentencing has been set for July 21, 2010. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco, and Explosives, and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Donald Schmid.

 

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
