ACTIVITY IN FEDERAL COURT - HAMMOND

 

 

 

Hammond, IN—The United States Attorney's Office announced the following activity in federal court:

 

Jamel Donte Williams, 32, of the 700 block of West 55th Avenue, Merrillville, Indiana, was sentenced by Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to 37 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to count one of an information charging him with drug trafficking (marijuana). Williams will also forfeit $15,195.00 in US currency. This case was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas Padilla.

 

Courtney Washington, 26, of the 4900 block of Kennedy Avenue, East Chicago, Indiana, pled guilty before Senior Judge James Moody to count one of a complaint charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Washington was previously convicted of possession of a controlled substance in 2006. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives HIDTA Task Force and the East Chicago Police Department Gang Unit. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dean Lanter.

 

Warren L. Mills, 34, of the 3800 block of Connecticut, Gary, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to count one of an indictment charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Mills was previously convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in 2002. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives HIDTA Task Force and the Gary Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas Padilla.

 

Felipe DeLeon, 27, of the 6300 block of Hohman Avenue, Hammond, Indiana, pled guilty before Chief Judge Philip Simon to count one of a second superseding indictment charging him with solicitation to commit a crime of violence. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation GRIT Task Force, the Illiana Regional Gang Task Force, and the Chicago Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Chang-Adiga.

 

Zatia Sain, 26, of the 2100 block of Freedom Street, Portage, Indiana, pled guilty before Senior Judge James Moody to count one of an information charging her with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and distribution of marijuana. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jacqueline Jacobs.

 

 

 

The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
