Victim-Witness Resources

Brochures and Other Information

Children and Internet Safety

Surfing the Internet can be a fun and enjoyable experience. However, this is also a place where crime can occur and affect the lives of those who use it, especially children. Our brochure, "Going on-Line is Cool", helps explain some of the facts about going on-line. Please contact the Victim-Witness Coordinator at (888) 368-5067 to request free copies of this brochure.

Victims of Bank Robbery

Robbery is a crime that is often prosecuted federally. Victims of this offense include the institution itself as well as the bank employees and customers who were present during the incident. This traumatic situation can affect them in a myriad of ways. Awareness and understanding are crucial in dealing effectively with such an event. For a copy of a brochure and/or a videotape with practical help for people who have been exposed to the traumatic effects of robbery, please contact the Victim-Witness Coordinator at (888) 368-5067.

U.S. Bureau of Prisons

You can find out the status of a federal inmate by logging on to the Bureau of Prison's website, www.bop.gov. You can click on Inmate Locator, then again on the same, and enter his or her name.

Current Case Information

For current information regarding a particular federal case in the Southern District of Indiana, contact the Victim-Witness Coordinator at (888) 368-5067.

Victim Assistance Program Funding

The Crime Victims Fund, which was established by the Victims of Crime Act of 1984 and is administered by the Office for Victims of Crime, is the source of funding for the annual VOCA awards. The Fund is financed with fines and penalties paid by convicted federal criminals. Fines collected in one year by U.S. Attorneys, the U.S. Courts and the Bureau of Prisons are deposited in the Fund and are available for grant awards the following year. Current or new victim assistance programs may apply for funds through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, (317) 232-1233.
