GUN, DRUGS ADD UP TO 15-YEAR SENTENCE
WICHITA, KAN. – Nicholas R. Sandefur, 30, Wichita, was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in federal prison on drug and firearms charges.
Sandefur pleaded guilty in November to one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
“Mr. Sandefur admitted that he was carrying .44-caliber revolver in the waistband of his pants when police stopped him,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren.
On April 29, 2006, a headlight was out on Sandefur’s car when he drove away from a suspected drug house that was under surveillance. When Wichita police officers pulled the car over, they noticed the handle of the firearm in his waistband. In the car, they found four plastic bags with a total of about 120 grams of methamphetamine.
Melgren commended the Wichita Police Department and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Metzger for their work on the case.
