FIRST DEFENDANT SENTENCED IN HAYS DRUG TRAFFICKING CASE

WICHITA , KAN. – Keaton M. Molleker, 20, Hays, Kan., has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison followed by 3 years supervised release, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.

In November 2008, Molleker was one of seven defendants from Hays indicted on drug trafficking charges. In May 2009, Molleker pleaded guilty to two counts of distributing cocaine.

In his plea, Molleker admitted that on June 23, 2008, and again on June 24, 2008, he sold cocaine to an investigator who was working undercover.

Also charged in the case are:
Rigoberto Rubios, who is set for sentencing Sept. 14, 2009.
Rusty Marshall, who is set for sentencing Aug. 24, 2009.
Franklin L. Graton, who is set for sentencing Aug. 17, 2009.
Dylan Motta, who is set for sentencing Aug. 3, 2009.
Angela Marie Alvarez, who is set for sentencing Aug. 3, 2009.
Thomas J. Matheny, who is set for sentencing Aug. 3, 2009.

Welch commended the agencies that participated in the eight-month investigation, including the Ellis County Drug Enforcement Unit, a joint city, county and state task force unit, with assistance from the Garden City office of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, the Hays Police Department, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Kansas Highway Patrol, and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Curzydlo, who is prosecuting the case.
