KANSAS CITY, KAN., MAN SENTENCED TO 27+ YEARS ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGE
KANSAS CITY , KAN. – Pablo Rene Bucio, 26, Kansas City, Kan., has been sentenced to 327 months in federal prison for drug trafficking, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.
In December 2008, Bucio pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. In his plea, he admitted that from August 2006 through November 2007 he conspired with his father, Pablo Ruben Bucio, and brother, Alberto Bucio, both of whom are charged in this case, to smuggle methamphetamine from Mexico and distribute it in the Kansas City metro area.
With methamphetamine selling at $16,000 a pound, the Bucios were monitored by investigators as the brothers traveled to Mexico to buy drugs and returned to Kansas City, where they took orders from local dealers, extended credit to dealers who were short of cash, and eventually collected the debts.
When investigators served search warrants at residences the Bucios controlled in Kansas City, Kan., they found an indoor hydroponic marijuana growing operation, firearms, cash and seven vacuum sealed one-pound bags of methamphetamine hidden in air ducts and basement ceilings.
Welch commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant U.S. Attorney Sheri McCracken for their work on the case.
