WICHITA MAN CHARGED IN TWO BANK ROBBERIES

WICHITA, KAN. – Michael T. Maples, 39, Wichita, has been charged with two bank robberies, Acting U.S. Attorney Marietta Parker said today.

According to a criminal complaint filed in the case, on March 19, 2009, Maples robbed Commerce Bank at 1250 S. Woodlawn. On March 24, 2009, he robbed the Sunflower Bank at 4101 E. Harry in Wichita.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on each count.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Wichita Police Department worked on the case. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Curzydlo is prosecuting.

As in any criminal case, a person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The complaint filed merely contains allegations of criminal conduct.
