OSWEGO MAN SENTENCED IN STOLEN EXPLOSIVES CASE

WICHITA, KAN. – Jonathan Farley, 26, Oswego, Kan., has been sentenced to 4 months in federal prison and 4 months home confinement for the theft of explosives from a southeast Kansas manufacturer’s plant, Acting U.S. Attorney Marietta Parker said today.

In December 2008, Farley pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting in the theft of explosive materials while he worked as a guard for a private security firm at Hallowell Manufacturing, an explosives manufacturer in Columbus, Kan. In a federal criminal complaint filed in July 2008, Farley was charged with allowing unauthorized persons onto the property, resulting in the theft of explosive materials. Stolen were a detonation chord weighing 27.75 pounds and an explosive chub weighing 14 pounds.

According to court documents, in June 2008 Farley allowed co-defendant Darrell Cook and another person to accompany him on his late night security rounds at the plant. Cook entered one of the storage facilities at the plant and took an explosive chub and a 5,000-foot roll of detonation court. Farley assisted Cook by putting some of the stolen explosives in his own car and delivering them to Cook the next day.
Co-defendants in the case are:
Darrell E. Cook, 34, Wichita, who was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of stolen explosives.
Shane A. Knoffloch, 37, Wichita, who was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of stolen explosives.

Parker commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Wichita Police Department Bomb Squad, the Kansas State Fire Marshal and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Treaster for their work on the case.
