EDGERTON BANK ROBBER SENTENCED TO 17+ YEARS
KANSAS CITY,,KAN. – Dale Allen Robertson, 55, was sentenced Monday to 211 months in federal prison for robbing a bank in Edgerton, Kan.
Robertson pleaded guilty in June to robbing the First Kansas Bank and Trust at 405 E. Nelson Street in Edgerton. In his plea, he admitted that on June 6, 2007, he entered the bank shortly after noon. Brandishing a revolver, he put a plastic bag on the counter and demanded money. He pointed the gun at the abdomen of the teller, who was visibly pregnant. He left the bank on foot and then escaped in a maroon van that was parked outside the post office at 4th and Nelson.
Investigators identified Robertson after obtaining a series of color photos taken earlier the same day at a bank in Wellsville, Kan. The photos, taken about an hour before the robbery in Edgerton, depicted a man who had been acting suspiciously in the Wellsville bank. Witnesses identified the man in the Wellsville bank as the same man who robbed the Edgerton bank. An employee at the Wellsville bank said he recognized Robertson because Robertson had robbed him at gunpoint about 15 years ago.
Robertson was arrested during a traffic stop in Lawrence, Kan.
U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren commended the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tris Hunt for their work on the case.
