MANHATTAN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO FIREARMS CHARGE
TOPEKA, KAN. – Anthony J. Wilson, 27, Manhattan, Kan., has been sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.
In January, Wilson entered a guilty plea. In his plea, he admitted that on Oct. 1, 2007, he broke into two homes in Manhattan, one owned by his mother and the other by his grandfather. He stole firearms from both homes, which he sold for cash to buy methamphetamine. Of the four firearms he stole, two were sold to Wildcat Pawn & Jewelry, one was sold to Manhattan Pawn Shop and one was sold to American Cash Exchange.
Wilson, who in 2006 was convicted on a felony burglary charge in Riley County, was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm.
Welch commended the Riley County Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Hough for their work on the case.
