KANSAS CITY, KAN., MAN
PLEADS GUILTY TO BANK ROBBERY

KANSAS CITY, KAN. – A Kansas City, Kan., has pleaded guilty to bank robbery charges.

Leroy Clyde Williams, 46, pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery. He entered the plea during a hearing Monday before U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia.

In his plea, Williams admitted that on July 11, 2006, he robbed the Security Bank of Kansas City at 1901 Central in Kansas City, Kan. At about 4 p.m. he entered the bank, waited in line and then gave the teller a note saying, “This is a robbery. Give me the money.” He kept his right hand under his shirt as if he had a gun. He took cash from the teller and left the bank.

Surveillance photos of the robbery were made public, which led to tips that Williams was the robber. FBI agents interviewed him on July 14, 2006, and he admitted committing the robbery. He was indicted July 19, 2006.

He is set for sentencing Feb. 5. He faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department investigated the case.
