FORMER GREAT BEND POSTAL EMPLOYEE SENTENCED FOR STEALING FROM MAIL
WICHITA, KAN. – Rhonda S. Basgall, 53, Great Bend, Kan., has been sentenced to two years probation and a $5,000 fine for stealing mail from the U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said today.
Basgall pleaded guilty to one count of theft by a postal plea. In her plea, she admitted that on Dec. 22, 2008, a woman in Great Bend mailed a Christmas card with three Walmart gift cards to her sister in California. The cards had a value of $60. Basgall stole the cards and, later that day, used the cards to make purchases at Walmart.
Welch commended the U.S. Postal Service and Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Metzger for their work on the case.
